Current Status

According to information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) at 09:45 JST on October 23, 2026, large Typhoon No. 30 (CHAMPI) was located approximately 200 km south of Ishigaki Island (22.6°N, 123.8°E) as of 09:00 JST on October 23, moving north-northwest at 8 knots. The central atmospheric pressure is 955 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 80 knots and maximum gusts of 115 knots.

Track Forecast and Outlook

The typhoon is forecast to gradually weaken as it tracks west of Iriomote Island through the night of October 23. It is then expected to turn eastward over the East China Sea, weakening further before transitioning into an extratropical cyclone.

With a storm-force wind radius extending approximately 320 km, most of Taiwan is expected to fall within the storm's area of influence. While direct landfall on the main island of Taiwan is unlikely, severe caution is urged across Taiwan and the Sakishima Islands for heavy rain, gale-to-storm-force winds, high waves, and storm surges.
