Current Status

According to information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) at 9:45 a.m. JST on Friday, August 21, 2026, Typhoon No. 18 (Saudel) was located near the Mariana Islands (14.3°N, 149.5°E) as of 9:00 a.m. on August 21, moving north-northwest at 12 kt. The central pressure is 985 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 50 kt and maximum gusts of 70 kt.

Forecast Track

The typhoon is expected to move northwestward while rapidly intensifying to a violent intensity, approaching Okinawa's main island and Amami Oshima around August 26. Heavy rain, violent winds, and high waves are likely across Okinawa's main island and Amami Oshima.

The track after the typhoon passes Okinawa and Amami remains highly uncertain. It could continue westward toward the eastern coast of China, shift northward toward the Korean Peninsula, or curve further southwest toward Taiwan.
