Current Status
According to information issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) around 13:20 JST on September 14, 2026, a tropical depression was located in waters near the Chuuk (Truk) Islands (12.2°N, 153.9°E) as of 12:00 JST on September 14, moving westward at 6 knots. The central pressure was 1,002 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 30 knots and maximum peak gusts of 45 knots.
Outlook
The JMA announced that the tropical depression is expected to develop into a typhoon within 24 hours. Upon formation, it will be designated as Typhoon No. 25 and named "DUJUAN."
The system is forecast to move northward over waters near Minamitorishima and is highly likely to intensify into a "Strong" typhoon by the morning of September 17. It is then projected to track northwest before shifting more toward the west, approaching the Ogasawara Islands around September 18.
Forecasts for the morning of September 19, when the system is expected to track south of the Japanese main islands, indicate a central pressure of 970 hPa, with maximum sustained winds of 70 knots and peak gusts of 100 knots. A storm warning zone is projected to extend up to 560 km from the center.
