Current Status of the Typhoon
According to the information announced by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) at 14:45JST, June 25, 2026, Typhoon No. 7 (Mekkhala) is moving northeast at 8 kt near 23.9°N, 125.9°E as of 14:00 on the 25th. The central pressure is 985 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center at 55 kt and maximum wind gusts at 80 kt.
Future Track Forecast
The typhoon is expected to move north-northeast and pass through the seas near the Nansei Islands accompanied by a storm area through tomorrow. Thereafter, it is forecast to gradually weaken while accelerating, tracking eastward along the southern coast of Honshu before transitioning into an extratropical cyclone.
Impact on Naha Airport (ROAH)
On the 26th, the typhoon is expected to pass over the sea to the west of Okinawa Main Island. Its closest approach is forecast for early tomorrow morning. Because the center will pass to the west, active rain clouds are expected to cover the area, unlike the situation in the Sakishima Islands.
At Naha Airport (ROAH), the peak impact from the approaching typhoon is expected to occur around 18-23Z on the 25th.
During this period, both wind and rain will gradually intensify. At its peak, very strong winds with an average speed of around 50 kt and maximum gusts of 65–70 kt are expected. In addition, reduced visibility due to heavy rain is anticipated, and there will likely be periods of strong crosswind impacts on RWY 18/36.
After the typhoon passes, from 00Z on the 26th onward, the wind will shift to a westerly direction and gradually weaken. The impact is expected to rapidly diminish by around 06Z on the 26th. Although intermittent rain remains a possibility until around 06Z on the 27th, the impact on flight operations is expected to gradually decrease.
Future forecasts regarding the typhoon's track, intensity, and expected wind speeds upon approach are subject to change. Please continuously monitor the latest typhoon information, airport forecasts, and various operational updates.
