Current Typhoon Status
According to information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) at 09:50 JST on August 26, 2026, strong Typhoon Saudel (Typhoon No. 18) was located approximately 160 km west-northwest of Okinoerabujima, Japan (27.9°N, 127.2°E) as of 09:00 JST on August 26, moving west-northwest at 9 kt. The central pressure is 960 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 75 kt and maximum gusts of 105 kt.
Forecast Track
The typhoon is expected to slow down somewhat and continue moving generally westward. Heavy rain, violent winds, and high waves remain a concern around Amami Oshima and the main island of Okinawa, Japan.
From the morning of August 27 (local time), the typhoon is expected to turn toward the west-southwest and gradually approach the coast of Zhejiang and Fujian, China. Landfall is expected along the coast between Xiangshan, Zhejiang and Fuqing, Fujian sometime between the night of August 27 and the morning of August 28.

At Naha Airport, winds of around 30 kt are expected to continue through the evening of August 26. As the typhoon moves away, winds are expected to gradually weaken — falling below 25 kt around 12Z (UTC) on August 26, and below 20 kt after 05Z on August 27 — with the typhoon's impact easing gradually. Wind direction is expected to be mainly southerly.
