NewsJul 10, 2026 10:15 JST

Current Typhoon Status

According to information released by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) at 09:50 JST on July 10, 2026, Typhoon No. 9 (Bavi), large and very strong in intensity, was located approximately 500 km south-southeast of Miyakojima (20.6°N, 127.3°E) as of 09:00 JST on July 10, moving northwest at 10 kt. The central pressure is 935 hPa, with maximum sustained winds near the center of 85 kt and maximum gusts of 120 kt.

Track Outlook

The typhoon is expected to maintain its intensity while moving northwest, passing near the Sakishima Islands in the early morning of July 11 with very strong intensity. In the Nansei Islands, particularly the Sakishima Islands, heavy rain, strong winds, high waves, and storm surge are of concern. Strong winds also require attention at Naha Airport. In particular, runway 18/36 is expected to experience wind directions of 110–140°, which may result in significant crosswind effects. Periods of heavy rainfall are also likely.

During the daytime of July 11, the typhoon is expected to pass over the sea north of Taiwan. Strong winds and heavy rain require attention at Taiwan Taoyuan Airport and Taipei Songshan Airport. In particular, heavy rainfall is possible during the daytime of July 11, with concerns about reduced visibility. The typhoon is then expected to gradually approach the coasts of Fujian and Zhejiang provinces of China. On the night of July 11, it is forecast to make landfall near the coast between Fuqing City, Fujian Province and Wenling City, Zhejiang Province, before gradually weakening as it continues northwest.

Forecast for Naha Airport (ROAH/OKA)

At Naha Airport, wind speeds are expected to peak between 09Z–17Z on July 10 (all times in UTC hereafter). Average wind speeds are forecast at 33 kt with maximum gusts of 50 kt. During this period, the crosswind component on the runway may reach approximately 30 kt, requiring close attention.

From July 11 15Z onward, wind speeds are expected to decrease to below 25 kt, with rainfall mainly becoming light. Impacts are expected to gradually weaken. From July 12 06Z onward, wind speeds are expected to drop to below 15 kt, and typhoon impacts are expected to gradually dissipate.

Forecast for Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (RCTP/TPE)

At Taipei Taoyuan Airport, wind speeds are expected to exceed 30 kt from July 10 23Z through approximately July 11 18Z, with a possibility of heavy rainfall. The strongest winds are forecast between July 11 00Z–07Z, with average wind speeds of 35–37 kt and maximum gusts reaching 53–56 kt.

From July 11 21Z onward, average wind speeds are forecast to decrease to around 20 kt. From July 12 00Z onward, wind speeds will fall below 15 kt. While some light rain may temporarily persist, typhoon impacts are expected to gradually dissipate.

Forecast for Taipei Songshan Airport (RCSS/TSA)

At Songshan Airport, crosswind components are expected to exceed 15 kt from July 10 18Z through approximately July 11 01Z, with attention required primarily for crosswind effects on the runway.

From July 11 02Z to 12Z, wind speeds are expected to exceed 20 kt, with the strongest period forecast between 06Z–10Z. During this period, average wind speeds are forecast at 26 kt with maximum gusts reaching 39 kt, and moderate to heavy rainfall is possible.

From July 11 15Z onward, wind speeds are expected to decrease to below 10 kt, though moderate rainfall may continue. Rainfall is expected to gradually subside thereafter, and overall typhoon impacts are expected to wind down.
